Take Risk, Think Out Of The Box & all these great thoughts take back seat when a Startup grows into a Big Corporation.
They all start playing relatively Safe Bet for retaining their Market Value & Financial Position. So at that time the term “Take Risk” becomes & remains as a lost ideology.
Now you may think why am I telling this suddenly? What’s the reason behind it?
Actually Today morning I came across a news that Facebook is building a Full Fledged Weather App which will be Integrated into it’s main platform both in its Web & App version.
It’s giving lots of helpful features like up to the minute forecast, weather alert, whether there is a chance of immediate rain or not etc. So now Facebook will literally show the day to all its users.
But my question is what is new in this. Ok they have brought a new add-on to give its users a more complete experience. But still, do you think it’s something really path breaking or disruptive.
Is it something which is going to redefine our experience as a user. I don’t think so, because till now I had no problem in checking whether using any of the third-party apps.
Now it’s coming as a built-in solution inside Facebook, which will decrease the overall time a bit. But my question is, to a Tech Giant life Facebook what we can expect from innovation’s perspective.
All the global media giants are covering this news like hot cake and it’s spreading like wildfire. Now you may ask, what is your problem?
Nope, I have no problem. But I was thinking & analysing this in a bit critical way. What will be the real impact of it? Is this a really out of the box innovation/ addition to their existing ecosystem?
Yes its a news, a big news & a good addition too but from innovation’s stand point its not so significant. Through this Facebook is helping it’s users in a new way, that’s unquestionable.
But here my concern is, as a simple user I want something (a feature) which will force me to tell WOW, what a feature! But here I simply can’t say it.
I am not criticising the new feature or its importance but we have more expectations from the Social Media Giant.
Here I am using this as an example to demonstrate my feelings regarding what’s the problem to all those biggies. Why they don’t want to take risk & think out of the box to a great extent while they become a Corporation.
Because it’s a very common phenomenon that small companies innovate & bigger ones undertake. But why in spite of having World Class Resources/ Facilities?
I am not saying Big companies are not innovating but if you dig deeper you will find that most of the time the real path breaking idea or innovation always comes from a small player.
May be one of the reason is they have nothing to lose but the big daddies have many or anything else.
What do you think guys? Let me know. I am keeping this discussion open.
