Don’t give surprise to your audiences by bringing sudden changes on your website’s UX (User Experience) !!
If you have planned to bring changes in your site’s User Experience (UX) then obviously do that, but with a bit patience & having proper strategy in place.
Because several times, I have seen this problem for many websites. Without any notification or intimation to their audiences or followers, a big update in UX has been rolled out.
If this is the scenario, then as a normal reader or audience my expression will be like, Oh 😮 ? Just last night I saw the site, but now it has been totally changed! Not just any minor change but the entire UX?
Remember, when you are bringing any UX related changes in your website, if it alienates your existing readers or audiences from usability perspective, then there must be something wrong and you have to rectify that.
Now the question is, what is wrong & why it happens?
The reason is, User Experience (UX) is a behavioural element, which signifies what is your overall experience when you use any specific product or service, in this context its website.
Any website’s overall UX can be dependent on 100 (or more than) different factors.
Suppose you are using any website for a long time and you have accustomed with every nook & corner of it. Suddenly one day you found out, the entire User Experience of that site has been changed.
Let me clear it a bit by giving you a more practical example. Just consider Facebook as an example here. We all (most of us, if not all) use Facebook on a regular basis, right? Engaging User Experience is a big factor behind that.
So, where a specific feature is located, we all are aware of that very clearly. If anyone asks about a specific feature then we will be able to tell it in no time.
Anyone can be able to do this who is using Facebook for a certain time. It’s not that we are habituated with the environment, it’s one reason but the ultimate reason is, the way entire User Experience (UX) is conceptualised, it takes no time to get accustomed with the environment.
Now one day suddenly without intimation, if Facebook roll out some drastic changes by revamping it’s existing User Experience, then how will you feel as a long time user.
The first thing is, you will feel completely lost, because to do a certain task where you were supposed to go until now that feature is not there. So definitely you will get confuse in the beginning.
Definitely after some days again you will be habituated with the revamped environment, but the initial problems which the users would face due to this kind of sudden roll-out, is not at all expected.
Now, by taking this as an example, map this scenario with yours. If you made such mistake, as depicted in the above mentioned example, then you can also loose your steady audience base, to some extent. Why?
Because as a dedicated reader or user of your website or application, I should have a bit expectation from you, like whenever any update or change will come at first I will be notified, then when the update will be rolled out, there will be a proper guidance from your end & if the update is big then it will come in steps, not all at once.
Just how the big companies like, Facebook, Twitter do, when the roll out any change? With proper way & guidance they introduce a certain change in a step by step manner.
Otherwise it can create tremendous impact on overall User Experience. So that’s why never ever bring changes in your site without following proper way? Now what is the proper way?
In this article I have explained its importance. In my next article I will cover how you should roll out a certain update & what will be its benefit from both end (your’s & your audience’s).
Until then you can let me know, what do you thing or what is your opinion regarding this subject matter?
