When you first install Firefox and start it. You ask some of this general questions like,
How to change the default start page of Firefox web browser ?

Can I set such an option, which will always prompt me to select download location when I am downloading something ?
& many more. These are the very basic questions that is being asked by almost all newbies. These are all related to general options of Mozilla Firefox.
So here are the answers of all your burning questions. Just have a look.
So, to configure the general option of Mozilla Firefox, just open the browser and in the upper right corner of Firefox you will find an option called “Open menu”. Look at the picture below, which is showing how the Open menu icon looks.
Click on the Open menu icon, a drop down menu will come just like the picture shown below.
There you will find different options like New Window, Save Page, Find, Options & many more. For this article we will look for the “Options” menu only.
So click on the Options menu & you will see a window called Options. See the image below.
The very first subsection in the Option window is General. I will discuss each bit of General Option of Mozilla Firefox and how you can configure it, in this article.
In general options section, there are two subsection Start up & Downloads.
Inside start-up, the very first option is a check box which states “Always check if Firefox is your default browser”. What it means ?
After installing Firefox in your machine if it’s not set as your default browser then if you check this option, every time when you open Firefox after loading a pop-up window will come as shown below:
As shown in the picture above in the pop-up window there are two buttons, “Use Firefox as my default browser” & “Not now”.
If you click on the first button then Firefox will be set as your default web browser. The second button will just cancel the pop-up.
If you leave the check box in General option unchecked then this pop-up window will not come even if Firefox is not set as your default browser.
To stop this pop-up window there is also another option in “Default browser” pop up widow.
Look at the picture above and inside “Default browser” pop up window you will find a check box (“Don’t ask me again”) if you checked it the pop up will not come.
To make Firefox your default browser in general settings window you will find a button called “Make default”(If currently Firefox is not set as your default browser, then only the button will show).
By clicking on it you can make Firefox your default browser.
Now come to second option “When Firefox starts:” there you will find a combo box with three options as shown in the picture below.
The option lets you define/ set what type of page to show when Firefox will start each time, from three predefined options.
If you select “Show my home page” like the picture above then you will be able to set your preferred page as the home page.
If you choose the second option “Show a blank page”, then in the next time when you will start Firefox, a blank page will be shown just like the image below.
If you choose the third option “Show my windows and tabs from the last time” then the pages which you opened in a session, after closing the browser if you restart, it will bring all the previously opened tabs.
Just below the “Home Page:” text box, you will find three buttons. “Use Current Page”, “Use Bookmark” & “Restore to Default”.
If you click on the “Use Current Page” button, then you will see that the URL of your currently opened page is set as your home page.
If you click on the second button “Use Bookmark”, you can set one of your previously bookmarked page as the home page.
And for the third button “Restore to Default”, Mozilla Firefox Start Page will be set as your home page. See the picture below.
Here one thing you must keep in mind that, these three button’s functionality will only reflect when you will choose “Show my home page” from the combo-box above.
Now let’s discuss the “Downloads” subsection.
There you will get two radio buttons. If you choose the first option, it will let you set a specific folder as your default download location.
If you choose the another option then each time when you download something, Firefox will prompt you to choose location where the downloaded files will be stored.
So these are the general options of Mozilla Firefox which you can configure according to your need.
