Empowering Students Community is a vital issue & for that necessity of Tech Events like Hello Hacker is unquestionable!
In my previous article I had thoroughly covered upcoming Hello Hacker, 2016 at Bangalore. Not only that I had also discussed why this event is going to be so significant for all upcoming engineering grads.
So, from there one thing has become very clear, the importance of this kind of event/ initiative for empowering students. Preparing them for the future.
Because we are living in a country where getting resources (engineering) is not a problem at all but the main problem is getting quality resources who are really employable.
According to a report of Aspiring Minds it clearly shows that around 80% of total students who passed out in 2015 from various engineering colleges of India are unemployable!
Shocking right? May be to you but not me! Why?
I am tracking this scenario from a long time & being an engineer by qualification I can understand this situation very well. Where is it lagging or how can it be solved?
I am not saying that initiatives are not being taken but the main problem is, except a segment of top-tier colleges it’s not getting affected.
& it is also true that the way number of Engineering colleges are cropping up across the country, applying a standard protocol is quite tough. Especially tracking/ monitoring them!
As an outcome of it we are seeing the result. Ultimately data speaks & from that you have already got the picture!
Otherwise why the ratio between employable & unemployable resources will be like this? If there doesn’t have any loopholes in our engineering education system.
But without blaming each other or our education system, as a responsible & educated citizen of our country if we take the initiative of empowering students community, that will be the best approach.
That’s why I liked the idea of Hello Hacker from the very beginning! Because, these type of events can be a great step towards empowering the students and making them more employable.
From the Socio-economic perspective it’s a great initiative too. A country which suffers from the shortage of quality human resources then time has come to take some corrective measures.
So let’s have a thorough look at how these kinds of initiatives can really help!
#1. Getting information about what’s trending
You can argue with me regarding in this age of internet, is this a problem at all to get information about what’s trending/ on demand for career? No not at all! Then?
But in student life how many of us have the eagerness to learn these things from our own? Think practically considering the general scenario.
At that phase we all (mostly) need a bit push & a proper direction to which we will head!
So in this phase of life this kind of interactive workshops/ events can be highly effective for every student. These will give you a clear idea on which will be better as a career option/ for future.
#2. What actually organisations want from a new recruit?
Until & unless you will interact to anyone who belongs from any organisation, you will never know what a company really wants from a new recruit?
You may be thinking you are good enough in your study but do you know what exact skill sets you need which will increase the probability of getting job or flourishing in career?
Now you can tell I have a huge connection on Social Media, so leveraging that medium I can sort out this issue. But tell me one thing?
Following someone on social media and when the same person is in front of you, are both the situation same?
I think no & you will also agree with me that there is a difference. From the perspective of direct communication, inter-activeness & personal relation building the importance of these events is huge.
#3. You know the core subjects but do you have a holistic idea
In student life we gain knowledge in bits & pieces but when we dive into the real world then our knowledge gets completed.
So when you are still a student how will you enrich yourself with a holistic perspective on your field?
So to have such a perspective, what you should do or footsteps you should follow that you can learn from these events.
#4. Strengthen your Personal Brand
You have heard this term many times but do you know what it is, how Personal Branding can really help you or how to create a strong personal brand?
Just like we, as a consumer rely on different brands for different products in our day-to-day life, in your career also you have to create your own brand such a way on which employers will rely!
So Personal Branding is vital! Just having knowledge isn’t enough today beside that you have to create such a persona to which people will get attracted.
#5. Know the power of networking
In today’s market you can’t neglect the potential of networking. Whichever field you are if you are not well-connected to your community then you may have to face different hurdles.
It matters a lot. If you have a very strong network with like-minded people then it’s benefit is in manifold. From getting a new prospect to find a whole new way, the benefit of networking is undeniable.
So I think you got my point? What’s your opinion on this?
