Do you know how unavailability of relevant Native Content can impact the overall Internet penetration?
Yes; That’s why I have used the phrase “Connecting the Unconnected”. It signifies, how proper availability of Native Content (Language & Context) which is relevant to someone’s query can get more people connected to the Internet.
You must be thinking, from where this Native Content can directly be associated with the Internet penetration or increasing the overall Internet population of the globe?
And one more question by the way, can you please tell me how many people are still not online from all over the world? Does the Native Content really matters to this?
If you are asking these questions, then let me clarify one by one.
If you are not aware of the real statistics regarding how many people are still not using the Internet, you will become stunned.
So you wanna know?
It has been found out from a World Economic Forum report that more than 55% of the entire global population are still unconnected.
I have also written a thorough article on what we should do to bring more people online from all the corners of the world. There you will get an idea on the current status of Global Internet Penetration.
So to connect those unconnected what is required?
By setting up Technology Infrastructure & creating Policies you can give the Internet facility to all.
But if there doesn’t have any relevant Native Content for the respective user base then wouldn’t it be like an empty vessel?
Because just think, why we use the Internet. Obviously to get information, primarily right? We do lots of other works too but the basic thing is to get information on anything & everything.
Now imagine you are searching about one of your burning issues on the net, but after spending an hour you haven’t got any relevant solution of that.
Though you are getting some results but those aren’t in your Native Language.
Now tell me one thing, I am a Bengali guy so beside my mother tougue, I know English & Hindi well. But I don’t know every language out there.
Now for a certain problem if I do a simple net search, what would I expect?
Obviously to get result/ solution/ info which is relevant & in any of my native languages (English/ Bengali/ Hindi), right?
But after searching rigorously if I don’t get a solution in my known language, will I be interested to search further. Never.
So Native Content is a crucial factor, content in your native language.
Because we all want relevant content in our native language quickly? To get an info if I have to learn a new language then I will immediately stop it.
Now are you getting the picture? Why is native content a crucial factor for increasing the reach of internet across the geographies/ demographics?
