Govt. has set Price Surge guidelines for all Ride-Hailing companies in India. But if it lacks proper monitoring then it can go against the consumer interest!
Recently Ministry of Road, Transport & Highways has set a clear guideline for all Ride-Hailing companies that during the day up to 3 times & from midnight to 5 am up to 4 times price surge is allowed on the minimum fare.
Big companies operating in this space in our country like Ola & Uber must be very relaxed after this recent decision taken by the ministry.
But from all citizen’s perspective, I strictly believe that it’s not only about setting the guidelines, it also needs to be monitored properly otherwise it can be misused.
It’s true that from the cab aggregators & entire ecosystem’s perspective it’s a quite good move while the entire country’s public transportation is going through a transitional phase.
So this kind of dynamic pricing with proper regulation was necessary. It’s not that it (Price Surge) wasn’t there but there was no such proper regulation on it.
Because many times we have experienced that in the pick hours due to high demand the surge in price becomes very high.
I am not saying that it’s unethical, as keeping a balance between supply & demand is also necessary but there should have a protocol.
Otherwise, without any proper reason operators can surge price in the name of the supply crunch.
Because it’s not only about the interest of the Ride-Hailing companies, equally it’s about those daily commuters too who are availing these services on their day to day life.
Now when a proper cap has been fixed based on the specific timeline it would be a matter of relief for all commuters like us that at a specific time the surge will not go beyond a certain limit.
If it’s within 12 in the midnight to 5 am in morning then surge can be up to 4 times apart from this phase anytime on the day it can be maximum up to 3 times. It’s will based on supply & demands perspective.
But there is a worry too! What?
Yes, because we all have experienced/ know that setting a rule is one thing & maintaining that properly is a different one.
In many circumstances, we face these inconsistencies & that’s why the problems occur. From Traffic Management in the road to getting a License from the concerned department.
There are rules in everywhere but how many of the people follow these properly?
The biggest reason behind this is not having proper monitoring or vigilance. Though there supposed to be but the concerned department is soo reluctant that rule has just remained in the rule book.
Because it’s a very common intensity of human beings. That’s where my main worry lies.
From the ministry level regulation has been set for all Ride-Hailing companies but if after a certain time it lacks proper monitoring then it will be of no use. Right?
So as a common citizen of this country, kudos to the decision taken but my request to the concerned authority is to tighten the monitoring from the very beginning.
