Why shouldn’t you let everyone post on your Facebook Timeline?
You are the sole owner of your Facebook account. Right? So, what type of content will be posted there on your Facebook Timeline, should be totally controlled by you.
You should never ever let anybody to share anything inappropriate, meaningless & objectionable on your Timeline.
Because in this age of social media, your online identity & reputation is largely dependent on how you maintain your Facebook profile. So, It’s your responsibility to keep it clean by maintaining its sanity.
But I have seen there are many people, who are less bothered about this issue. They actually take this matter very casually and never ever care about who is posting what on their Facebook Timeline.
They don’t even consider that when someone posting something inappropriate or obscene in their timeline or tagging them with something like that, ultimately it will hamper their own reputation & image to a great extent.
But on Facebook, there is a separate area inside “Settings” called “Timeline and Tagging Settings”, from where you can easily control different options related to Timeline & Tagging feature.
Some people still don’t use it, I don’t know why. But my question is, what’s the point of making your Facebook Timeline an open slate, where anyone can write, post & share anything.
This can be really dangerous, you never know. If someone publishes something objectionable, then your reputation and face value will come under question.
Now you may ask, why are you saying so negative, bro? Why will anyone post anything objectionable thing on my Facebook Timeline?
Remember one thing always, it’s not about why anyone will do it or whether anyone will ever do it or not.
From a generic security & reputation’s perspective, you should take the charge of your Facebook account and try to maintain the sanity of your Facebook Timeline before anything wrong happens.
What type of content will go there & what not, that will be totally under your review. Because it’s your account so it should be your concern.
Do you ever allow anybody to write any meaningless or objectionable thing on the exterior wall of your house? Never, right? Because it’s your personal property, right?
So just like this, your Facebook Timeline is also the exterior wall of your online identity or image.
You never know when a big incident or controversy will raise from a silly post on your Facebook Timeline. So be concerned about whatever is getting posted there.
Now you may argue, if someone else has posted something obscene or tagged me in a meaningless post, then what can I do for that? It’s their choice & how can I stop anyone from doing what they want?
Right, you are absolutely right from your point of view. But you can take care of your own side, no? Who will stop you from doing that?
So, if you configure the Timeline and Tagging settings in such a way that whenever anybody will tag you, without your approval, that post will not be visible in your timeline or when anybody will try to share something on your timeline without given permission it will not be possible, then only many unwanted incidents can be avoided.
So there are the provisions, but you have to apply that? But at the same time, it’s also true that until you become fully convinced about the risks, you will not take it seriously.
For that, I will give you 3 solid reasons of why I am saying that never let everyone post anything on your Facebook Timeline without your permission. But not in this article.
In my next article, I will cover all 3 points in-depth. This post was all about to give you a generic idea regarding this issue. In my next post, it will be clearer to you.
